  • In Queensland, the best time of year to lay new turf is spring, although it can be laid year round. A lawn laid in warmer months will become established faster, but will also require more water. A lawn laid in cooler months with not need as much water, but will take a lot longer to become established.

  • Since you live in balmy Queensland… yep, you can lay a new lawn any time of the year. Just take note that it will take much longer to become established than if you were to lay it during spring or summer.

  • Start with our handy Turf Calculator. Add 5-10% to make allowances for calculations and / or tricky shaped yards.

  • 1 meter of turf can weigh up to 20kgs, or more if wet.

  • Yes, we always recommend visiting the farm first to make sure you’re happy with the quality, and to ensure the turf is the right one for you! Just make sure to call us to book in a time first, we’d hate to be caught in the middle of a sneaky long lunch break!

  • You can, but just make sure you pick the right grass. A Buffalo grass like Sapphire, Sir Walter or Palmetto, only need around 3 hours of sunlight a day, so they won’t be fussed if those pesky neighbours refuse to trim their trees. If you’re unsure, feel free to give us a call.

  • This really depends on your lifestyle and what you consider important. A Buffalo grass like Sir Walter is super durable and will grow back damaged grass lightning fast, but it also requires a fair bit of mowing. A Zoysia grass like Augusta is also highly forgiving, but because it’s a slow grower, will take more time to repair itself. Best to check out our Turf Comparison Guide or give us a call.

  • You live in Queensland, right?… what winter! Most warm season grasses will lose a little bit of colour over winter but, a good fertilising in spring will help retain a vibrant colour year round.

  • We guarantee that our turf will be the envy of all your neighbours and make your ex-significant other wish they never broke up with you. But in all seriousness, we stand by our product and wouldn’t put anything in your home that we wouldn’t want in ours. If you’ve got some concerns, please don’t hesitate in contacting us, we’ll do our best to ensure you’ve got grass that you’re happy to lay and play on.

  • Yes, to have your order delivered, you will need to meet the minimum order amount.

    Couch varieties = 75m+

    Buffalo & Zoysia varieties = 50m+

  • We'd love to meet you in person, but we understand that you might have more important things to do, like be at the footy. Just let us know where you'd like us to drop off the turf, and we'll take care of the rest.

  • Your turf will be delivered in strips, sitting on a palette, using our palletless delivery system. Just let our delivery driver know where you want them placed, and there’ll be nothing other than your turf left behind.

  • If you’ve ordered 50 meters or less, no problem. Just wait to hear from us with a confirmed day, time and location first. And make sure you’re following QLD safety regulations for heavy loads.

    If you are collecting your order with a single axel ute, you will be limited to one pallet. A single axel trailer is limited to less than this. Please check the legal load requirements of your vehicle prior to collection, and bring tie downs or straps.

  • Start with our ‘Laying 101’ guide: the perfect guide to laying so that your turf thrives. If you’ve got further questions from there, feel free to give us a call.

  • Keep in mind that turf is a living plant. And considering we live in balmy Queensland, as a rule, we suggest laying your new turf within 24 hours of it being cut. This will reduce any likelihood of pallet burn or heat stress, ensure it doesn’t dry out, and will get you to the pub sooner. Consider laying turf in the coolest part of the day if this falls in line with our 24 hour suggestion.

  • About as important as remembering your wife’s birthday… stuff it up once and you’ll never live it down! Start with our complete guide “Prep Like a Pro: 7 steps to preparing your site for a luscious new lawn.”

  • Enough to make it feel like it just took a refreshing dip in a fancy infinity pool. In other words, give it a good soak to help it settle into its new home. We suggest downloading our Turf Fact Sheets for a full breakdown of how to look after your turf year round, from day 1 to year 1. You’ll find the right fact sheet for you turf variety on that page of our website, i.e. purchased Sir Walter Buffalo? Head to Turf Varieties > Sir Walter Buffalo > Download Sir Walter Fact Sheet.

  • We know you're excited to show off your new lawn to your neighbours, but give it a little time to root itself in before you start hosting a backyard barbecue. We recommend waiting at least a week before walking on the turf.

Installation

  • Get down on its level, gently stroke it and tell it how excited you are that it’s going to become a beautiful new lawn… then, you’ll want to start with our “Prep Like a Pro: 7 steps to preparing your site for a luscious new lawn.”

  • Sandy Loam is our soil of choice but, head to your local landscape supplier and they’ll easily recommend the best option for you. Just mention that it’s for turf underlay.

  • The deeper the better. We suggest underlay is between 100 to 150mm deep, provided you’ve got a good soil layer underneath.

  • Break it up as much as possible. It’s best to apply a clay breaker such as Gypsum, before putting your underlay on top. For extreme clay compaction, you may need a bobcat to turn the ground over first.

  • Unless you’re happy with a pretty crappy end result, we wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll need to remove the old grass and prepare the site properly to make sure your new lawn has a healthy foundation to grow on. You wouldn’t build a house straight on the dirt, would you?

site prep

  • We recommend fertilising at the start of summer, spring and autumn. A good quality, granular fertiliser is best, but your local landscape provider will be able to provide you with a few options.

  • A pesticide will fight off the insects, while a herbicide prevents and treats weeds.

  • Use pesticides in the spring before worm grub breeding season. Use herbicides as a pre-emergent at the starts of spring and autumn.

  • Firstly, you should choose a weed-proof turf variety, made with a secret blend of ninja grasses that are immune to weeds.

    Not really… be consistent with a pre-emergent herbicide at the start of spring and autumn. If you do get weeds though, be generous with a fertiliser at the point of the problem, followed by bi-weekly mows for 2-3 weeks. Alternatively, head to your local landscape supplier with some snaps of your weeds, for the best advice on the best weed spray.

  • Wait until the roots have established, about 3-4 weeks in warmer conditions, and then give your lawn its fist haircut. Keep it light though, there’s plenty of time to perfect your lawn-mowing style later.

  • We recommend watering your new lawn multiple times a day (up to 3) for the first week, then gradually reducing the frequency to every other day, then every few days. Just don't forget to sing to it while you water - it's a proven fact that music makes plants grow faster.
